In our Chi Gung work shops we always start with an explanation of focus thought, proper posture and appropriate/proper breathing. Once the importance of (combining these three elements) this is understood we move into a 10 minute meditation. This sets the pace for the second stage, which is called mind moves body practice, both of these ancient methods work together in helping the person to get out of the way of themselves, and to be more open to the things that will want to surface and come through. When these two stages are complete it is then time to do some martial movement. One of the most important concepts that we work with and in our at my school chi gung work shops, is dantien awareness and movement. We call this waking up the lower dantien or your creative center, the lower dantien is located about 2 inches below your belly button, is it the reproductive region in Chinese medicine it is often referred to as the water region. Because this is also where all of the water organs are located. In Chi Gung practice and training this continuous and physical awareness is extremely important. This is why all of our work shops contain these concepts. Also in ancient times in the far east, words like dantien, chi-flow, ying & yang, swallow spit, emptiness, ceaseless circulation, stillness and mindfulness centerdness and many other words were very common, but no mater what the language the meaning still lives on.
There are two Chi Gung work shops that we offer to start with; one is called vitality Chi Gung, and the other is tai chi chi gung; vitality was originally used for: energetic chi, calmness or sleep and also to balance or equal out the positive and negative forces, this is also known as ying & yang. Tai Chi chi Gung was developed for: building and circulating chi, please keep in mind, this type of practice is based on fullness, so they have similar benefiting properties, but should be used as separate ways of practice, in chi gung training. Clarity, intention and continuous presents is vital. Remember these are life practices and when a person does them consistently they will continue to open & grow.
